Is it just me or do you also find Montreal to be the closest thing to Paris? When it came to deciding what to do for Valentine’s Day, it seemed fitting to go for a romantic weekend getaway in Montreal, specifically at the luxurious W Montreal. Located right by beautiful Old Montreal and Downtown Montreal, along with its chic and modern style made it the perfect hotel choice for us. The weather forecast showed extremely low temperatures for that weekend but Karan and I were so sure that would change over the days. We’ve usually been lucky with weather during previous vacations so naturally, we held on to that hope. Him and I had been to Montreal many times before, but never just the two of us so I was very eager to explore cute shops, cafes and of course, everyone’s favourite – Old Montreal with him. Let me just say, none of that happened because the forecast didn’t change and it was way too cold! Well, we managed to do some of that but the majority of our time was spent in the hotel and that actually didn’t turn out too bad at all. I hope you enjoy the photo story below, where I will be taking you through our romantic weekend getaway in Montreal, along with a peek into the luxurious W Montreal Hotel.
Day 1: Exploring Montreal (kinda)
Waking up avec mon amour. After a tiring drive and late night check-in, we woke up feeling so well rested, thanks to the comfy beds at the W Montreal.
We woke up to this stunning set up of the TV, exactly opposite of our bed. It felt so…how can I say this…royal-chic! (Is that even a thing?)The room looked gorgeous in the morning light. This spacious bathroom was tucked away behind the curtains next to our bed. We headed to the lobby to have breakfast at E.A.T. It was quite refreshing to enter this space. The lobby area is quite dark since the decor is more around blacks and reds. However, the restaurant had lots of natural light coming in and the white walls were covered with graffiti. It was clean, yet edgy.Yummy breakfast.Back in the room to catch up on some emails. Isn’t this workspace so perfect? We were finally ready to brave the -30 degree weather and decided it’s time to head out for some “exploring”. I put that in quotations because it was more like get out of the car, run as fast as you can to the restaurant or cafe AKA heated area, hang out there, and then run back to the car and wait forever until it heats up.This was my favourite thing to admire at while waiting for the elevator. Major decor inspiration. We went by Old Montreal to hit up the best poutine spot, Montreal Poutine. We drove around a little more and stumbled upon this neat coffee spot called Kahwa Cafe. Karan was in the mood to entertain you guys on Snapchat with funny faces and odd videos and such. You know what I’m talking about if you were following along.I really wanted macarons and wished there was a Laduree here, but guess what, I found the next best thing. We came across Boutique Point G, a really cute bakery with macarons and other sweet treats. Their special for Valentine’s Weekend? Kama Sutra macarons haha – you also must have caught a glimpse of that on my Snapchat story. It was a fun evening but we wanted to head back. It was no fun being out but not being able to explore. We picked up some wine and we were eager to get back to our gorgeous room to relax and cozy up.I walked in to the most beautiful flowers set against the signature grey curtains of W Montreal. It was such a wonderful surprise. I figured the flowers would come on Valentine’s Day but it was heartwarming to receive them unexpectedly, the night before. The lovely staff helped out Karan with making this little surprise happen 🙂
Day 2: Valentine’s Day
We woke up on Valentine’s morning feeling more in love than ever. Just kidding – we woke up feeling sleep deprived and tired because a fire alarm had gone off in the middle of the night. Turns out the pipes in the hotel had frozen due to the extreme cold temperatures and there was leakage and all of that fun stuff. Welcome to Canada. I have to say though, W Montreal did a good job with not letting the guests feel too much discomfort the next day. Mornings like these is what room service is made for.
Most-delicious-crepes-ever.Before we knew it, it was time for our appointments at Away Spa. The treatments, service and atmosphere were so heavenly. I absolutely recommend treating yourself to a massage or facial here.We were back to our room, but we weren’t quite ready to make a move and go out just yet. We decided to continue the rejuvenation from Away Spa by having a bubble bath in our room. We just called room service to ask for bubble bath soap and a kind gentleman showed up with it in a martini glass – I was tempted to drink it haha. FYI – there’s no need to drink the bubble bath which arrives in a martini glass, because there’s this wonderful mini bar available. Drink responsibly. The bubble bath was enjoyed the way it should be, courtesy of Ed Sheeran and this stunning iPhone dock. It looked so chic and played one of our favourite songs, “Thinking Out Loud” so perfectly. I wanted to take it home! After an uber relaxing and romantic day at the hotel, it was finally time to head out for dinner. You can see more pictures of my outfit here.Karan had made reservations at Bevo Bar and Pizzeria, a trendy Italian restaurant. I totally recommend this spot for a date night.
Day 3 – Goodbye W Montreal
It was time to say goodbye to W Montreal, but not before having their delicious breakfast at E.A.T one last time. Karan ordered the same thing on all three days – can you tell he’s a fan? We relaxed a bit more and decided to ask for a late check out. It was really hard to leave such a spacious, comfy and stylish room.
I didn’t completely realize this until our last day, but W Montreal changes the mats in the elevator to suit the time of day. “Bonjour” for the daytime and “Bonsoir” for the evening. I really loved this little detail.
Before starting our drive back to Toronto, we wanted to visit another cute coffee spot called Cafe Ferlucci. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Montreal.
I hope you enjoyed reading about our romantic weekend getaway in Montreal and having a special peek into W Montreal, truly the most luxurious hotel in the city. We were very lucky to be in a hotel that makes staying in easy when the weather is terrible. Thanking the W Montreal for a lovely stay and I definitely recommend you visiting this luxurious hotel when planning your romantic weekend getaway in Montreal.
