Happy New Year, my lovely readers. By now, you must have come across at least a hundred blog and/or social media posts about resolutions for the new year. So instead of resolutions, today I’m going to talk about how to prepare your home for 2016.
I stopped making new years resolutions since, ummm, yeah, I can’t even remember how long ago. If I’m not wrong, the last time I wrote down resolutions for a new year was in elementary school when the teacher asked the whole class to do so. I have nothing against them, but I realized that by putting these resolutions up on a pedestal every January, it works against us by the end of the month. Then, we beat ourselves up because they were so short lived. Actually wait, before I go on to explain this, there’s one particular blogger who perfectly explains what I mean, here. See what I’m trying to say?
I have come to realize that while it’s a great practice to create resolutions and set goals, it’s more important to pay attention to our atmosphere which hugely affects our energies, attitudes, and motivation levels. This is why I will be talking about 3 simple ways to prep your home for the new year. A few tweaks to your living space can work wonders for you and those new goals, which I would like to see you push through until the end of the year (okay, at least until the middle of the year).
I just love white and green. Indoor plants are essential to any living space and I should also mention, they help to make the environment healthier. We get so caught up in hitting the gym to make our bodies healthier, but the air we breathe is equally important. Add some greens, and let that O2 in.
Get Organized with a Garment Rack
If you’re like me who likes to create a chic living space without needing to go through an entire renovation, then you’ll love adding a garment rack to your room. Something about a walk in closet makes things feel so stuffy. Ever since we got a garment rack, I feel a lot better. Picking out clothes is a happier task and it feels a lot cleaner and organized. I tend to keep my seasonal apparel on the garment rack, and off-seasonal apparel goes in the walk in closet. Start your new year with this inexpensive organization update and I promise you will feel calmer, more organized and not to mention, also a little Parisian ;).
While I am a tech lover, I was quite pleased to read about this home decor trend for 2016 on Elle. Our homes definitely cannot be tech-free in this day and age but, many of us will be choosing to keep family or living rooms unplugged in 2016. I love this idea and I hope it picks up very early in the year. Like now, after you’re done reading this blog post. But honestly, freeing our minds and bodies from technology is crucial to being in touch with our thoughts. It would give us the time and space to evaluate how we are doing with our goals and figure out any adjustments that need to be made in order to achieve them.
There you have it. These are 3 simple ways to prepare your living space for 2016. I hope you can incorporate these changes in your home and I am sure they will support your new resolutions and goals for the new year. Happy New Year, once again.
